Display of shift force dependent on shift travel
Display of shift force dependent on shift travel

The transmission shift analysis is becoming more and more important for the development and application of synchronized manual transmissions. It is applied for:

  • Comparison of vehicles
  • Evaluation of competitive products
  • Quality assurance during production
  • Assessment of design modifications
  • Comparison of lubricants
  • Description of transmission lifetime behaviour
  • Evaluation of inner and outer shifting
  • Analysis of Synchronization behaviour and
  • Generation of automatic shifting profiles as well as evaluation and comparability of such fehlt hier nicht noch was????

The self developed Transmission Shift Analysis tool GSA has proven to be a big help for GIF to carry out complex transmission development projects. The thereby achieved knowledge and experience enables GIF to perform the above listed tasks. The service resulting thereof can be split into 2 main groups:

  • Data acquisition and
  • Data analysis.

Data Acquisition

In addition to the usual subjective evaluation techniques, this procedure offers customers objective measured variables for the comparison of transmissions. These are mainly the shift travel and shift force. The system allows further flexible measuring and calculation methods. The data acquisition procedure consists of:

  • Supply and installation of hardware with various sensors
  • Acquisition of characteristic data and their conversion into required physical evaluation parameters (online)

The customer is supplied with a complete set of measured data which allows measured data to be evaluated at a later period according to differentiated analysis specifications.

Data Analysis

The analysis is performed according to characteristic shift behaviour. This means, shifting from neutral position can be classified into the pre-synchronising zone, synchronising zone and the double bump zone. This data is then be analysed (offline) and the results are shown either in tabular or graphical form, gear-, travel-, force-, rpm- or temperature dependent. To display further measuring channels the X-axis and Y-axis of simple xy-diagrammes can be performed, individually allocating existing measured and conversion variables. Specific customer required profiles can be considered.
