General

The test bench data acquisition and automation software PDES is used on every GIF test bench. Also the more complex GIF products, like the vehicle shifting robot, are operated with PDES. It is possible to respond to customer demands since the software is developed on GIF premises and we are therefore not reliant on program revisions of supplier firms.

Combined Advantages of Two Systems

The newest version of PDES is separated in two systems - a front-end computer and a controller. This separation on one hand enables the utilisation of the advantages of Windows and on the other those of an independent controller:

Advantages of Windows

  • Comfortable and graphic definition of projects
  • Development of individual layouts for the visualisation of measuring data and test bench states
  • Development of own control programs in a programming language specially developed for the test bench automatisation via a convenient editor
  • Utilisation of the front-end computer for monitoring and control of a test run and at the same time an adequate working computer with access to the company network

Advantages of an Independent Controller:

  • The real-time operating system guarantees a fast reaction on critical
    incidences on the test bench.
  • High reliability and stable continuous operation as influence through parallel
    running processes does not exist.

Available Interfaces

  • Peer-to-peer connections between the front-end computer and controller via the IP-network
  • Optional connection of the front-end computer to the company network
  • Connection of the controller to the test bench via an analogue and digital channel and to journal based channels via a CAN-Bus
  • Communication to a SPS as redundant test bench fallback system

The Programming Language and the Control Program Editor

  • An incident and task controlled adaptation of measuring data is possible
  • Components and objects allow a clear program code
  • Comfortable source code editor with syntax highlighting
  • An intelligent programming assistance eases the input of the source code (for example "Auto-Completion")
  • Indication of the actual program in a tree structure for the simple navigation inside of the source code
